A lot has happened in the last two weeks. They have this twelve week program for missionaries, the training program for missionaries. I have graduated, and am now a regular missionary which is kind of scary, but the good news is that the Lord is always with us.
I knew that Sister Baclayon was leaving Kalibo, but I never expected to be transferred. While Sister Baclayon said goodbye to all of our investigators, I just said, see you next week, then we got a text at 9:00 at night telling us who was transfering, and my name was on the list. I hurriedly packed everything up, including my still damp garments( I had done laundry before the text) in the suitcase, and left at 5'o clock the next morning.
My new area is in Iloilo central,or the big city. It's so different from Kalibo. Kalibo was green, kind of rural, and now there are apartments everywhere, malls, and alleyways. My new companion is one of my batch in the MTC, Sister Mitchell. We are probably two of the whitest people in the city for miles, and you can almost see the Filipino's heads explode, What, two white people at the same time?
The kids here are kind of like flies,if you stand still too long, they swarm. They are so cute. Parts of our areas we have a possey of kids following us. A lot of the kids just want to touch the whiteness of our skin. Who knew that my whiteness would ever be a good thing. Here, the whiter the better. In fact, they have whitening powders and lotions.
Anyways, the work here is so good. Sister Mitchell and I are the newbies, just graduated the twelve week program. The other missionaries in our batch have followup trainers(or they have senior companions), but we will just followup train each other. We don't understand everything, but the Lord has truly helped us in our work. I know that the Lord has prepared people for us specifically.
The greatest miracle this week was finding brother Ricardo. We are in Sister Mitchell's area, and we got lost, trying to find one of other investigators. We decided to take advantage of the opportunity, and go tracting. We were walking down the street when brother Ricardo came up to us and asked if we had a Mormon bible(Book of Mormon), and we said yes. We talked to him a little bit more and figured out he had a Book of Mormon in Tagalog, but he wanted one in Ilonggo. We set up a return appointment for after conference on Saturday, and just hoped that he would show up.
The next day we went to conference, and our other investigators was a no show. An hour before the end of the session, he came! He watched the talks of Jeffrey R. Holland and Thomas S. Monson, and he even stayed for the Priesthood session. Afterwards he asked us how do I join your church? He feels that he is not a good person, but he truly wants to change. He accepted the baptismal date in the first lesson. He is so ready to change. I love having the opportunity to see miracles, and I know more are on the way.
